Guildford · family-run, directors on the tools
A limited company where the directors still turn up in the van.
Guildford Plumbing and Heating Ltd is run by Matt and Phil Camp, and the reason that matters is visible in the reviews: customers do not write about "the team" or "the office", they write about Matt explaining the job from beginning to end, and about Phil quoting the work and getting it done quickly. The person who prices your job is the person who carries it out and the person you ring afterwards.
The range is deliberately wide, because most Guildford houses do not have a heating problem or a plumbing problem — they have one of each. Boiler servicing and replacement, powerflushing a sludged system, tracing a leak nobody can see, a bathroom or wet room start to finish, an unvented cylinder, a commercial kitchen, or a tap that has been dripping since March. One firm, one number, one set of people who already know the pipework.
In plumbing, the tell is rarely the finished tiling. It is whether the pipework behind it was run by somebody who expected to be judged on it — which is why one customer describing a loft conversion said the pipe work was a work of art, and why that line is worth more than any badge on a website.
What the firm does
Heating on one side, plumbing on the other, one number for both.
Boiler servicing & landlord certificates
The annual service that keeps a boiler safe, efficient and within warranty — plus landlord gas safety certificates for rented property.
Boiler installation & replacement
New and replacement boilers — combis, system upgrades and smart controls, sized for the house and registered for the manufacturer's warranty.
Powerflushing
A one-off deep clean of a sludged heating system: cleaner radiators, better circulation, quieter heating and lower bills.
Leak detection
Tracing the leak you cannot see — under floors, inside walls, beneath a slab. If it is not found, there is nothing to pay.
General plumbing & emergency repairs
The everyday list — burst pipes, floods, taps, toilets, overflows, stopcocks, pumps, radiators and valves — done properly the first time.
Blockages, drains, gutters & downpipes
Blocked toilets, sinks, pipes and drains cleared — plus the gutters and downpipes that cause damp long before anyone blames the plumbing.
Why people ring
Read the reviews and you will notice something: they are about two people, by name.
Most plumbing firms collect reviews about “the team”. The ones on this business name Matt and Phil — who turned up, who explained the job, who quoted it, who cleaned up afterwards. That only happens when the people who own the company are the people doing the work, and it is the single most useful thing you can know before letting a stranger lift your floorboards.

In their own words
Three customers, unprompted, on the same two engineers.
“Had our old traditional boiler replaced by a combi and moved to the loft. Fantastic professionals who took great care and attention to both the work and the house. Everything runs perfectly, and the pipe work is a work of art.”
“We found Matt to be the most responsive and attentive contractor we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He took the time to explain everything from beginning to end and left the job clean. It was like he was never here.”
“I was thoroughly impressed by Guildford Plumbing and Heating. Their team was not only friendly, reliable and competent but also incredibly prompt.”
Registrations & training
What the firm holds — and how to check it yourself.
No wall of badges. These are the registrations and qualifications the business states it holds; the right way to satisfy yourself about any of them is to ask for the card or the certificate and look it up. That goes for every trade you let into the house, not just this one.
Gas Safe registered engineers
Gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, and the firm publishes registration number 591545 on its own certification page. The right way to satisfy yourself is the same for any heating firm: ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card at the door — it lists the specific appliances they are signed off for and carries an expiry date — and look the registration up yourself on the Gas Safe Register.
Gas qualifications: CCN1, CEN1, CKR1, CPA
The core domestic gas competencies listed on the firm's certification page — core gas safety, central heating boilers, cookers and gas pipework. These are the assessments behind a gas engineer's card rather than a badge, and they are what the ID card at the door actually records.
City & Guilds Level 3 — Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating
Listed by the firm on its certification page. It is the qualification behind the efficiency side of the work: correct boiler sizing, controls, zoning and system design rather than simply swapping like for like and hoping the bills fall.
G3 — unvented hot water systems
Also listed on the certification page. G3 is the building-regulations competence required to install or work on an unvented hot water cylinder — the sealed, mains-pressure type — which is not something an unqualified plumber should be touching.
Public liability insurance
The firm states it carries full public liability cover. Ask for the certificate and the expiry date before a large job starts; any established firm will send it over without fuss.
How the common jobs are done
Judge a plumber by the reasoning, not the sales pitch.
Every job here starts with a diagnosis rather than a parts list. Here is how two of the most common ones are approached — from the first question at the door to the point the system is handed back working.

The old boiler that came out and went up into the loft
The situation — Swapping a traditional system boiler, cylinder and tanks for a combi is the most common heating job in a Guildford house, and the most commonly botched. Moving it into the loft frees up an airing cupboard, but it also means new gas and condensate runs, a flue where there was never one, frost protection for the pipework up there, and enough head of pressure for every outlet in the house.
How it is handled — Everything is looked at before a price is given: gas supply size, flue route, where the pipework can honestly be run, and whether the radiators and the incoming main can deliver what a combi asks of them. Then the install is done in one go, the system is cleaned rather than filled straight over old sludge, the controls are set up with the householder, and the boards and carpets go back down as they were found.
“Everything runs perfectly, and the pipe work is a work of art.”Tom Webb · Google review

The leak that only shows up as a damp patch
The situation — A dropping boiler pressure, a warm patch on a floor, a bill that has doubled, or a stain on a ceiling that moves. None of them tell you where the water is coming from, and the expensive mistake is to start lifting floors on a hunch — that is how a small repair turns into a room's worth of reinstatement.
How it is handled — Detection first, demolition second. The system is isolated section by section to narrow the search, the suspected run is traced with the right equipment rather than by guesswork, and only then does anything come up. The firm's standing promise applies: if the leak is not found, there is nothing to pay. Once it is located you get the repair, the making good, and a clear description of what happened for the insurer.
Worth reading before you ring

Guide 01
Boiler servicing: what actually happens

Powerflushing: when it is the answer, and when it is not

Landlord gas safety, in plain English
What a CP12 is, what counts as an appliance, the twelve-month and 28-day deadlines, what happens when a check fails, and what a tenant is entitled to.

01
Ring or email, and describe the symptom
Call 01483 235549 during the working day, or email info@guildford-plumbing.com. A photo of the boiler's data badge and whatever the display is showing often answers half the question before anyone gets in a van, and for a bathroom or a boiler replacement a couple of photos of the existing setup will do the same.
02
A look at the actual pipework, then a price
Bigger work — a boiler change, a bathroom, a cylinder, a commercial kitchen — is quoted after somebody has looked at what is really there, because the existing pipework, cylinder, flue and controls decide the job as much as the new appliance does. You get the price before the work is booked, not after it is finished.
03
Done, tested, and left clean
The work is carried out by the engineer who quoted it, gas appliances are tested and commissioned properly, controls are set up with you rather than left in a manual on the worktop, and the house is put back as it was found. One customer's summary: it was like he was never here.
Where Matt and Phil work
Guildford first, Surrey after that.
The firm describes its patch as professional plumbing and heating services across Guildford and Surrey, and works out of Worplesdon on the north-west edge of the town. Guildford itself and the villages around it are the bulk of the diary; wider Surrey work is taken on too, so if you are not sure whether you are in range, it is one phone call to find out.
